Unseen Heroes

Sister Valeria is one of the unseen heroes or should I say angels who have bettered the lives of many children. She grew up in the city of Brasov where she met the Lord and gave her life to Him. She was involved with a local church fellowship there. When she moved with her family to a poor village named Plopoasa, she found there was no church and no other Christian families. At first they walked to a different village each Sunday where there was a church. In 2011, seeing the spiritual and physical needs in Plopoasa she and her family prayed for God’s help. They knew the verse well which said “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.” Our local Feeding Center coordinator Dorin found out about sister Valeria’s dream and desire to help her village. An answer to prayers came when a local house which was used as a small shop was made available for use as both a church and Bread of Life Feeding Center.

Today sister Valeria is happily going about her daily routine: preparing and serving food to hungry children and teaching them songs, Bible stories, and prayers. She does all of this while still caring for 5 children in her own home. Her husband, who did not support his wife’s efforts at first, changed his mind and heart when he saw the good wo11926377_779567912176289_1095018113_ork God was doing through her.

It is one thing to plant the gospel seed in the heart of a child but it is quite another thing to see results as that seed of faith actually begins to grow. Sister Valeria asked God for a sign that her efforts were not in vain. Not long after that, she found out from the children she was feeding and teaching that they had formed a prayer group that meets in an abandoned building each day before school. They told her that after they pray they look up at the blue sky knowing that God is looking upon them, watching over them. Even the scorn of some of the local villages for sister Valeria’s children did not stop the good things God was doing since the improvement in the lives of these children could not be denied.

Like sister Valeria, our supporters are unseen heroes since nothing we do would be possible without them. Our supporters are not people who live a life of luxury and ease. Each one has challenges and difficulties he or she must face every day. Still they find it in their heart to help the poor on the other side of the world. We praise God for people like sister Valeria and like our supporters. When we think of our heroes we are encouraged and recharged, ready to face another day in God’s harvest field.

Each fall, children approach the first day of school with nervous anticipation or eager excitement. As a child, I loved school. I remember preparing with a list in hand, carefully choosing pencils and notebooks. We weren’t wealthy, but my parents always found a way. Sadly, many children in Romania don’t get to experience that joy. For them, choosing school supplies or packing a backpack is out of reach. Without basic tools, some can’t attend school at all—missing the education that could shape their future.
