Unexpected Lesson of Love

After months of intense lessons at our feeding centers, we planned some different activities for the children in the poverty-stricken communities.

Many of these children have never ventured beyond their village. Education often takes a backseat to daily chores, and it’s common for them to drop out of school early. That’s why we focus on providing food and tutoring, believing that education is crucial to breaking the cycle of poverty.

To reward their efforts, in each place we found interesting special projects. At Balaceanca for example we took them on a day trip to the Bucharest Zoo and treated them to McDonald’s—a big deal for children who had never traveled or experienced a Happy Meal. What began as a reward for them became a teaching moment for us, as we learned a profound lesson about love.

The day was filled with joy and wonder as the children explored the zoo. But the most touching moment came during lunch when Ana, one of the girls, sat quietly with her unopened Happy Meal.

When asked why she wasn’t eating, Ana explained that she wanted to save her meal for her little sister at home. Her selfless act was a powerful reminder of the deep love and generosity even the young can show

Some time ago, we helped build a small house for Ana’s family, providing them a safe place to live. Now, Ana can focus on essentials like education.

Yet, her act of love shows that even with these new opportunities, she still places her family’s needs above her own. Her selflessness reflects the resilience and care these children carry within them, even in the most challenging circumstances.

By chance —or perhaps by divine providence—we had an extra Happy Meal that day. So Ana could enjoy one herself and still take one home to her sister.

Dear Ministry friends, serving these children is an honor that continues to teach us valuable lessons. Your support makes moments like this possible, allowing us to touch lives in distant places. As we prepare for another school year, we face financial challenges. The communities we serve are in desperate need, and children like Ana rely on the resources we provide through our ministry. Thank you for enabling us to provide holistic care for God’s glory.

“You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.” – Psalm 139:16 None of us chose to enter this world, nor did we select the families or circumstances into which we were born. These aspects of life are beyond our control, yet they shape us deeply.

God’s Word instructs us to care for the vulnerable, especially the widows and elderly. Psalm 56:8 states, “You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in Your bottle.” Inspired by this, the Bread of Life ministry extends compassion to the elderly, who often go unnoticed despite their sacrifices and hard work in earlier years.
